Well, the snow didn't last long. We got rain and some sleet too. It was pretty much a bust. Oh well. Maybe we will get one nice snow this year. I didn't go out today just in case the roads were icy. I got all my usual Sunday stuff done. I got a good deal of writing done too! :) I was happy with that and I can't wait to re-read it. I am sure I'll add a few things to it and edit it some tomorrow. I love writing in Scrivener and being able to edit as I need. It's so much easier than writing in a basic word program! I also want to give props to Evernote for always being there to back up my work!
It's snowing here right now! :D It's so pretty It's already stuck to the grass, but not the street. I went and watched it from the back door for a bit. It was too cold to watch any longer. Hopefully, it will continue through out the night. It probably won't as the forecast keeps changing, but we'll see! I might turn off everything in my room and look out and enjoy it if I can actually see anything.
I ran out today and got a few snacks to have for tomorrow just in case. They had said 1-6 inches, then they said a lot less and then it was starting at rain, but it actually started as snow, so I don't know how it's going to play out. I want to watch it, so I hope it continues to snow well into tomorrow! I have plenty of stuff to eat and I also have a bunch of snacks so I'm set. I wrote a good bit today, too! :)
It was very cold today. There is still some snow in places hanging on. The forecast now is for more possible snow and ice this weekend. I am not sure if it will, but it's certainly going to be something if it does. It's so blasted cold! I'm glad my friend gave me a better heater for my room a few weeks ago or I'd be freezing to death in my own house! lol
Speaking of my house... Last night, I was in the bathroom that is next to my bedroom and I heard something. Every so often, I'll hear animals under my house and they come near the tub and I can hear them in the bathroom. I knew immediately what it was, so I went on about my business. Well, later on, I kept hearing this weird noise. It was a sort of chirring/chittering/ churring sound. I figured it was the animal. Since the bathtub in the bathroom next to my room is so close to my bed on the other side of the wall, it had to be that. It was SO LOUD at one point I could swear whatever it was was actually in my room. It trilled and made noises and then, it SCREAMED and I mean screamed. After that, I heard nothing. @_@; I don't know if something killed him, or he ran away somewhere else. I haven't heard anything at all today. It was pretty damn creepy. I looked up various animals (sounds on YouTube) and I THINK it was a possum, but I am still not sure. I was going to get a recording when it was doing the weird churring sounds and then it started screaming. This was right after midnight too, so... yeah, that was fun. :p
I wrote yesterday and today and I opened a Scrivener file for the other story idea I have. I'm not ready to work on it yet, but I'm going to have it to use to put my ideas in. I have some already in Evernote so I'll have them both places. I keep coming up with stuff for it, so I figured I'd go ahead and get the Scrivener file started so I could put ideas and research in there as I go. I think it's going to be good, but I'm too invested in the current one. I have enjoyed it so much!
By the way, here is the weather from the app on my MacBook Pro:
Looks fun, no? :p
It actually DID snow last night! I didn't look out until almost 3 am and was surprised. It was pouring snow and it was sticking to the road and the grass. I knew it would be mostly gone by the time I got up, so I went and took pictures. lol Yes, I took snow pictures at 3 am. :P Here are a few I'll share:
Sorry, just one, for some reason, the other ones are not uploading correctly. It was so pretty last night. There was still some snow on grassy places today, but most of it was gone. It was very cold, but the sun was shining. It was very nice while I lasted. According to the forecast, we might get more wintery weather on Sunday! We'll see how that goes. I'm happy that I did get to see the snow last night. I wish it had happened during the day when I could sit and watch it, but at least it snowed. :)
So I kept seeing people mention snow and I hadn't heard anything about it. I then went and looked at the forecast here. They are saying that we might get up to 3 inches of snow after midnight! It is supposed to start as rain and change to snow. Well, it is raining. I will be surprised if it actually does snow. I would love to see it. Of course, it is supposed to do it tonight when I won't be able to sit and watch it. Maybe if we get enough it will hang around until tomorrow? :)
I meant to post last night. I wanted to tell you about the crazy experience I had yesterday at Starbucks. So, I go over there and the drive-thru line is literally wrapped around the building This building has two other restaurants in it. The end of the line was where the start of the line was. I thought, phooey on this, I'll go in. So, I park, not in the best place, and go to head in and see a sandwich board outside. The inside is closed currently and it's drive-thru only. D'OH So I go back to my car and get out of my space. That took some doing because of people in line. I had to drive past the line of cars and I had to wait for a truck to move up for me to get by and then had to squeeze between another car and the dumpsters. I decided that I was not going to get Starbucks! It was pretty insane.
Today, I went over there and looked and the line was long, but it was nowhere near what it was yesterday. I was able to go and get a drink (blonde flat white) and head out. I was glad to get something this time. Their hours have been really weird lately. I think they are having a shortage of workers and I think they had a Covid case and they were actually closed for a few days. I hope all the baristas are healthy and stay safe! I love my local Starbucks baristas!
I was sitting at my desk last night on my laptop. I was going to post to my blog and everything (except my MacBook Pro) went dark. The power was out. Luckily the display on the Mac was bright enough for me to grab candles. I got my candles lit and arranged around the room. I was just about to sit and get comfy when the power came back! That was a short outage! I'm glad it didn't stay out too long as it was quite cold last night. I should have posted to my blog via my phone, but I forgot all about it! Once the power was back on, I got comfy on my bed and didn't get back on the computer.
I have written a bit for the last two days. It's been fun. I really should write some more tonight, but I still need to put my linens back on the bed. I have them in the dryer now. I got all my other usual Sunday stuff done and a few more things. I tried something tonight that I had never done before. I was playing around in Pages the other day and went back tonight to look at all the templates in there. I noticed one for envelopes. I figured, what the heck, I'll try to print one. I've never printed one and I wasn't sure where to put the envelope to make it print correctly. I actually got it in the right spot on my first try! The only thing is, I had it reversed so the address would be upside down if you opened the envelope the way you are supposed to. I then ran another one and it was fine. It looks so nifty! I used one of my favorite pen pal's address for the outgoing line and I will use it when I write her. I REALLY need to write letters. I don't think I've ever been this far behind before. I feel bad and every day I wait makes me feel worse, but I just can't seem to get myself to write. AHH! If only I could go sit in Starbucks. :(
Guess where I went today? Yes, the grocery store. I got so much good stuff. It was a successful trip. I was actually able to get everything I was looking for. Well, there was one thing I might have bought if it had been there, but it really wasn't a big deal. I did buy something new to try. I got this package of three thin crusts for pizza. They are small, about personal pizza size. I also got some pepperoni and cheese and sauce. I'm going to make one and see how I like it. I'm sure it will be good. I am glad they had the little crusts as my toaster oven isn't big enough for a regular pizza.
I wrote a good bit tonight and I was happy to do it. I had a scene in my head of another story I want to write. The scene is so clear in my mind. I wrote notes for myself on it and put it in Evernote. I will write this scene someday. It won't really fit in my current story. I had another story I started many years ago. This would go with that if I pick it back up.
I heard from my disk support peeps. I got the drive wrapped and ready to go. I dropped it in a UPS box tonight. It will be picked up by them tomorrow and be on its way. I don't know if they'll send a replacement with the files (if they are able to recover them) or ahead of time. They gave me a number to keep track of everything on the website so that is good. I hope they can get my files back. I'll be happy to have a new drive to back up my stuff. I don't want this to happen again!
This picture does not do justice to my new keyboard cover. I have wanted one of these multi-colored ones for a while now. I found this one Monday evening on Amazon and it was delivered today. Isn't it pretty? I like these because they add a pop of color to my MBP but they also provide protection from crumbs and things getting into the keyboard.
I love it! My friend texted me today and said he was getting off early today and did I want to go eat at Pete's in Reidsville. I did! We went and ate and then went to the Salvation Army thrift store and the Goodwill. I found some neat things. A light-up jack o lantern, a light-up snowman, a skirt measuring tool (for sewing), a Darth Vader mug, a twig star (it's actually a pentagram), and a pair of Homer Simpson sleep pants D'oh!). My friend found a pair of New Balance sneakers and bought them for me. They were a half size bigger than I wear and I didn't try them on. I just did and they fit fine. I think they might run a little small, so being a half size larger makes them perfect! It was a fun and unexpected thrift trip.
The funny thing is that today's Zeeops was to get 2500 points on Munzee by either capturing or deploying Munzees. I was capping them all over the place in Reidsville! lol I made my daily Zeeops goal. It's been a pretty good day! ^___^
I went to Starbucks today and tried another new drink. The new one is an almond milk honey flat white. How is that for a mouthful! It wasn't bad at all. I think I might like it better than the pistachio latte. The more I drank, the more I liked it. At first, I wasn't sure, but it grew on me. I would probably try this one again. I went to Dan Daniel's park to sit for a bit since it was a little warmer today and I wanted to capture a few Munzees there. I took three pictures to share:
Nice, yes? It was a good little respite in my day. I finally heard from my hard drive support team! They are going to try to retrieve my data and they are going to replace the drive. That is wonderful! I hope they can replace the data. I am anxious to get the replacement drive so I can back up my current stuff. I also want to be able to give the borrowed drive back to my friend! Speaking of my friend, he had given me a nicer heater than the one I was using but it stopped working. He came a week or so ago and looked at it and it was working fine. It worked well for a few days and then did the same thing as before. So I was back to the original heater that isn't very effective. It heats, but it's not as powerful as I need for those really cold days considering it's the only heat in the house! (I keep my door closed at all times). He brought me another little heater tonight. It's about 1/4 of the size of the heater I usually use and it's warm! I plugged it in and then rode with him on an errand. I could tell a difference when I got back. This is going to be good! I'm quite happy with it and hope it lasts. I'm actually pretty toasty for a change. That is nice!
So, I had just sat down to eat my lunch and I had a YouTube video queued up to play. It was a Reddit video, pro revenge, I think? Anyway, I'm sitting here and then the video stops playing. I look around and notice that everything quit, too! The power was out. It was cold here today and I had already layered up to survive in my room. I did not need the power to go out and take away what heat I did have! I went out and drove around in my car a bit after eating to warm up and then came back here before it got too dark to see. I got my fuzzy, warm Wolf blanket out and put candles all over my room. I lit those, got my the Mac and got on my bed, and tossed the wolf blanket over everything! lol Here is the view I had.
I had a nice cozy tent. I didn't stay under there long and I just wrapped the blanket around me. Guess what happened about two minutes later? The power came back! All in all, it was out a little over an hour. Someone had an accident and hit a pole nearby. It took out power for a good portion of this side of town. I'm glad it came back as quickly as it did. They estimated several hours.
It was snowing when I got up today. It didn't snow long and it didn't stick to much of anything but at least it did snow briefly. I wish we would get one really nice snow. It's been cold and bleah all day. Bleah all day except for the snow part. :p I have been .... I don't even know what I've been doing. Seriously. It's been a long day. I did remember to take a picture of the case on my MacBook Pro. I was about to forget that, but I remember and here it is:
I love the colors, it's what attracted me in the first place. In the pictures, it looked like there was a cut out at the Apple. In the ad pictures, it shows a bright white apple so I thought it was cut out. I realized when looking back at the add after it had shipped that it does not have the cutout. D'oh! It's still gorgeous. I wanted to write today and I haven't. I might do that after posting this. I've had a migraine for several days. This is day three, so I might not be able to come up with a good day's work. We'll see. I need to do my French too as I've forgotten all about it. I got the last of the Starubkcs holiday cards I ordered. I now have the complete set of 2020 holiday cards! ^_^
By the way, this is the picture on the listing. Do you see why I thought it had the cutout? :|
Yes, I was about to leave the computer and not post today. Well, what happened? So, as I said I wrote up a big post two days ago and then didn't post it or save it to draft. D'oh! It was about a comedy of errors when I was getting my old iPhoto files from the old Macbook to the MacBook Pro. It took FOUR tries. I networked the Macs to move the file over. The first attempt, my dumb ass restarted the Macbook. On the second attempt the internet went out. The third attempt, it was almost done (as it was the first time) and I noticed the MacBook wasn't charging. What did I do? I pulled the cord out to re-seat it. Guess what? No percentage on the battery. I had to start over for the fourth time. Sigh. I finally got the file moved over and got it all set up. I had everything back to the way I wanted it. I was happy. I was still working with the 'dead' drive to try and get it to connect Well, I foolishly restarted and tried to reset the PRAM. Guess what? I got the same exact error from the weekend. I put the drive that I had the Catalina backup. I got hooked up. I was able to access the files on the corrupt drive but couldn't get it to boot. I moved the files to the external drive (the one my friend lent me) and then I erased the internal disk and did a clone of the drive. I then unhooked the external and booted it. It worked. Phew. Now I just needed to get Big Sur back. That took WAY longer than it should have but I finally got it back. So I spent a lot of time yesterday getting things back up to speed. I finally finished up today and got everything as it should be. If I could get that first external drive to work, that would be great. I STILL haven't heard from support! :( I went to clone the drive with Big Sur on it to the drive I bought for the 13" MacBook Pro (I haven't used it yet because I still need a hard drive cable.) I figured I'd clone the drive on that and see if it was okay. I put it on the 13" MBP and nothing I get that circle with a slash. I am not going to worry about that for now. I have this one working and now I know exactly what caused both 'crashes' I will NEVER try to reset the PRAM. AHHH!
So, as of now, I have a working computer with all my stuff. I just need to download a few programs that I just remembered I don't have on here. I had to do that iPhoto transfer again today. This time it only took ONE try! Whee! lol So, here is your update. I hope you enjoyed it. I'm going to take a nice break from my computer. My pretty snap-on case came for it today. I'll try to remember to take a picture tomorrow. I ordered it from China on the 3rd and it got here today. Not bad at all! I
It's been a crazy few days. I had a post all typed up last night and then got distracted and forgot to post it! LOL! It disappeared today when I forgot about it and restarted the computer. That was a mistake in more ways than one. I'm too tired and too frustrated to go into it tonight. I'll write up a post tomorrow, I promise!
So Saturday, I was using my computer just fine. I had to restart it and then that was when the problems started. It did the exact same thing it did in November. It was showing no bootable volumes. I thought, at least I have my Time Machine backup. Guess what didn't work? YUP. The backup did not work at all and it erased the drive to do the backup so I was left with a clean drive and no backup. AHHHHHHHH! I tried everything I could think of and worked on it all day Saturday. I borrowed a drive from a friend and tried a few more things and nothing. I had to just stop and give it up for the night. I was tired and frustrated and nothing was being accomplished. I didn't sleep well as you might imagine.
I woke up around 7 and decided to re-install my OS. I knew I would have to install the long-ago version and then start updating until I could get back to Catalina. I got that on and then tried to clone the drive and put it on the empty internal drive. That worked fine! So, I have no idea why it died in the first place but I had Cataline. I installed a few things I needed and did the patch to get Big Sur back because by now, I was used to it by now. That took all day on Sunday. So, today, I got the old drive and the backup drive to get files off. The backup drive is now just null. It lights up when I plug it into the computer but it isn't recognized. I contacted support as it is under warranty. I'm hoping they know of some trick to make it work. I need the information that was on there. I'm still very upset that I did my backups weekly for no reason. :(
Today, I was able to get some things from my old drive, but a lot of stuff is on the 2TB drive I got in November that I can't access. It's driving me nuts that it's just 'dead'. If my stuff can't be recovered (please let me recover it!!!) I hope they will replace the drive. I spend the day running recovery on that old drive. It took over 5 hours and I didn't get everything I needed, but I got a lot. The newer stuff was in the Time machine backups. It's driving me crazy to have this happen again so soon after the last incident. So, now I wait for tech support on my drive and hope I can get things going again. This time, I think I'm going to clone the drive weekly on an external drive. That way I know it will be backed up. At least I truly hope so! This whole situation has been so frustraing!
I did get to write a little tonight and that was great. I haven't written in several days because of this mess. It was nice to get those words down! 2178 words is not bad after not writing in a few days! :) I am again grateful to Evernote for being my daily writing backup site. I didn't lose any writing because of it. Thank you, Evernote!
