Myrtle Beach Boardwalk Feed

Friday afternoon / early evening post

Hoo boy am I tired. I decided to walk to the Pavilion area today.  It's been a LONG time since I walked that much. I was hurting coming back, let me tell you! LOL I walked to the beginning of the boardwalk and walked it down to the Pavilion area. I went in the Gay Dolphin and bought a cute shirt and a few stickers/decals.  I then walked across the street to I love Sugar.  I wanted bulk nerds. Guess what they didn't have? WAH!!!!!!!! lol, I wanted my damn Nerds! I did get some of the little Cotton candy-flavored candies that I like a few random things to try. I love bulk candy. Goodness, gracious! :p

I went to the first Starbucks that I came to, the one in the Bay View Resort.  I got a caramel ribbon crunch frappuccino and it was delicious! I was able to pick up a few cards I didn't have, too.  I went to the Oceanfront Starbucks but I didn't get anything in there today.  I just wanted to visit. I saw a water bottle that I adored at the Bay View and was going to buy it at the Ocean Front one, but they didn't have it. Oh well, I'll get one or something else I love. :P

I walked back along the Boardwalk and then when I got to the end, I took off my shoes and gave my poor feets a break, and walked in the surf back to the hotel. That was nice and my feet were much happier with me! It was nice to walk in the daytime as so far, I've only been on the beach at night.  I still will go tonight, but you know how it is! :P I took a lot of pictures and I'll share some here. Maybe I'll do a complete Google photo album of the trip when I get home. For now, enjoy these pictures I took along the way.

Wednesday morning post

It's a bit cloudy today but it's still beautiful.  I went out and sat on the balcony for quite a while.  It's pretty hot out there but not too bad.  I felt a nice breeze every now and then.  I am not sure what I am doing today.  I might walk if my friend isn't ready to go out before later.  I just had my coffee so I might be happy to just sit here for a bit!

I took a few pictures on the balcony and I'll share them.  I would like to walk to the Pavilion area but we are staying a lot further away and I'm not sure I want to walk there and back. I'm so out of shape from not walking. Ahhhh!  Let me Google the distance.  It is 3.4 miles to the Gay Dolphin from here.  That would make it at least a 7 miles round trip with me going in stores and such.  Ah!  I want to go but I don't know if I have the stamina. :p

Thursday evening post

So, here I am sitting on the balcony posting my evening post. I have eaten and it was delicious.  My friend didn't get ready until it was almost too late to go to Victoria's. They close at 8 and I was upset because I didn't want to go in and hold them over.  We got our food to go and were out before they closed so that was okay.  We brought it back here to eat and it was delicious.  Sadly, since we brought it back here to eat, we didn't do anything else while out.  Oh well.

I am enjoying the quiet of the evening and the sound of the waves crashing in on the beach. I hope tomorrow's weather is as nice as it was today!  I am not sure exactly what I plan for tomorrow.  We'll see.  I would like to go to the pavilion one more time before we leave but who knows.  I might wait until Sunday for that since we will still be here.  That oceanfront Starbucks will be open tomorrow, though... :)

Here is a picture from the balcony tonight.  Enjoy and I'll see you tomorrow morning!

Sunday Afternoon posting!

What a trip! I walked on the Boardwalk to the Pavilion area and beyond! :P. I got down to the first Starbucks that I pass (Bayview Resort) and I stopped in and got a frappuccino.  I drank it on their outside tables and it was delicious.  I then walked back on the Boardwalk and went to The Gay Dolphin and wandered around in there. I love that store. I got a shirt, some vintage postcards and a little bag.  I went from there across the street to I Love Sugar and got almost a pound of candy! I got everything I was looking for except one thing.  They were out of those.  I then walked to the oceanfront Starbucks.

I got a water and a bag of chips.  I wanted to sit in for a bit so I bought the chips and the water.  It was nice to sit in a Starbucks for the first time in ages.  Being an oceanfront Starbucks made it that much better.  I enjoyed my time there and then moved on so that others might have a chance to come in and sit.

I stopped by Pier 14 and looked around. I found a little crochet manta ray. He is teal/turqoise and he is so cute!  I had to have him. I bought that and then headed back.  I stopped at 2nd Ave. Pier, but I didn't go on or in.  I came back here and took a quick cooling shower and put on clean clothes. My friend is getting ready and we are going to head out for some food soon.  Not sure where but probably fast food.  It will be yummy!  Here are a few pictures to share. I'll share more later.

Sunday morning post from Myrtle

I went to bed right after midnight and I was able to sleep! I woke up several times during the night, but I fell back asleep each time. It was unbelievably nice to get to sleep like that.  I feel like an actual human today! :P

The hotel here has coffee pots but no coffee for them! AHHHHHHH I will have to go and get some ..soon... lol. The hotel we are going to has single serve coffee makers (if they still have the same ones as when we stayed before) so they should have coffee available.  I'm going to look on Google and see where the closest place is that I can get coffee.  The nearest Starbucks is quite a walk away.  There is a Dunkin closer.  I will decide what to do.  I need to eat something before I go out and I'm not ready to get dressed and go just yet.  I will though as this is the only day we'll be staying this close to the SkyWheel / Pavilion area.  I really want to go to a few storesup that way.  I will pass a Starbucks on the way and there is the Oceanfront one... Mmmmmm Starbucks...

So, yeah, that is my day so far. LOL I have gotten some sleep and now it's just a time to decide what to do. I just checked and it's 82˚ here today.  Yikes! I think that since this is the day I'll be closest to the Pavilion, I'll go there today.  I just have to get myself up and going.  I know once I eat some leftover pizza and head out, I'll be good.  There are places I can get a snack on the way too, if I want.  Yes, I guess it's Pavilion today.  I'll try to take pictures to share later.

For now, I took a few pictures from the balcony just before coming to post this to share. Enjoy and I'll be back later this afternoon!

Hello again!

I have gotten my second wind and I'm a little more with it now. I wanted to post about the interesting thing that happened on my way to Myrtle Beach!  My friend and I usually do this trip from Monday - Sunday. He had this planned well before Covid-19 and all that mess.  When he found out that we would actually be allowed to go, he also found out that he would be off Friday, Saturday, and Sunday before the day we'd usually leave.  What does this nut do?  He books us a room at a different hotel for those two nights! LOL!  Yes, we are here until Monday morning and then we change hotels.  Fun, eh?  Two extra days for having to move twice?  I'm not complaining!

So, we were getting close to getting to Myrtle and his battery light comes on. Uh oh! Not good.  He pulls over on a busy highway and risks life and limb to check under the hood.  Everything looked okay, so he said since we were less than 10 miles from the hotel, we'd try our best to make it.  Well, when we get in Mrytle, they have Ocean Boulevard only going ONE WAY. You have to get on a certain cross streets and go to your hotel.  We didn't know this at first and we below ours and we were going to just drive up. NOPE. You can only go right onto Ocean Blvd.  So, we had to go eight streets above our hotel and go through there.  The car was struggling.

We get to the hotel and he sees a few parking spots near the front and he goes for it.  The car dies right there.  Luckily he was almost  in the spot so he was able to maneuver it and park it.  We went to hopefully check in.  This was just before noon and check in is at 4pm!  Of course the room wasn't ready but she said she'd call.

So, we can't go anywhere because of the car. This first hotel is right next to the beginning of the Beach Boardwalk so we go sit on a bench in the shade there.  He does some looking online and calls around and finds an autoshop store that will deliver the parts here to the hotel. Score!  They do and he hs been out working on putting the two parts on.  Hopefully this will fix the problem.  It's been a very long day and we are both tired to death.

We stopped at a Goodwill in Longs SC. My first thrift store in almost two months!  I got really 'weird' in there.  The only thing I could describe it was I felt like I was going to fall over in the floor. I actually stumbled into a clothing rack and was swaying badly. We checked out and then got on the road. It wasn't long after that the car issues started up so I was freaking out about feeling like I was dying and the car was trying to die too!  I think the car and I are both better now.  I hope he is coming back in soon with good news.

As for me, I felt better once I sat down in a cool environment.  We ordered pizza and I ate three slices of that on the balcony with some of my beloved Mountain Dew (I AM NOT A NECKBEARD!) I just happen to love their drink of choice. D'oh!  Anyway, I felt a lot better after eating and I've been just sitting and relaxing since.  I am starting to feel like myself again but damn I'm hungry again. LOL

That pizza was almost six hours ago now so it's okay that I'm hungry. I want to wait for my friend to get done with the car and hope that was a success.  I can eat leftover pizza or if the car is running we can risk it and go out in this insane traffic. AHHHH!

So, that was my day so far. I wanted to share with you. I didn't realise I would be writing my next novel right here in the blog. :P Here are a few more -pictures including that fabulous Hungry Howie's pizza!

Tuesday afternoon

Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! I just got back from a long walk.  I walked to the Pavilion area.  We are a lot further down here than we were in June. It was a hike! lol . I got down there and walked all over the Gay Dolphin.  I found a smooshed penny machine that I've never seen before. YAY!!!!!  I got two different designs. I love them.  I also found something I looked for several years ago and could never find.  A iron on patch! That was so weird.  I looked and realized what it was and grabbed it up! lol

I got a few more small things and then went across the street to I Love Sugar.  I got a small bag of assorted goodness. lol . They have bulk candy.  I got a bit from this bin and that. It was an eclectic mix!  I left there and headed back across the street and walked down a bit to an arcade/game center.  I went in and got a Coke and then I saw the little snack bar.  I went and got some fries and went back in and ate them.  Yummy!  It was a nice break.  After that, I started back.  I stopped at a Bargain Beachwear on my way back.  After that, I stopped once to sit on a bench on the Boardwalk before leaving the Boardwalk and getitng back on Ocean Blvd to come the rest of the way home.

I got here and I was going sloooooow.  My poor feet are hurting.  I have blisters and I'm raw in several places! LOL . I came in and took a cool shower (bliss) and put on clean clothes.  I'm feeling a bit better now, but my poor feet are not happy with me!

Here are some pictures I took while out.

Hopefully on the mend.

I have felt a little better today, but I'm not where near back to normal.  I mainly stayed around the house and didn't do a lot.  I did some work on organizing my Starbucks cards.  I got some new ones at the beach so I wanted to get those all sorted and put in my binder.  I also went through and found that I had some ones with pin intact.  I changed all the ones that I had in my collection that weren't like that.  I also had some 'special' cards and I put them in the other binder.  I was glad to get one task done today!

I finished one of the books I was reading too.  I just have to finish the one I started on the Kindle waaay back in May.  It's sort of meh, so it's been slow going.  I might skip it and start something else. I haven't decided yet.  I'm just not getting into the story.  I'll give it a few more pages tonight and see if it picks up.

I do have a picture to share.  On the night of the storm at the beach, I walked to the SkyWheel/Pavilion area on the beach like I had been doing and went up on the boardwalk to the Gay Dolphin. I'm pretty sure I already mentioned that, but just in case. :P . When I left the boardwalk and got back on the beach, I took this picture of the Skywheel.  I think it's my favorite picture I took of it while there:

Friday Afternoon

Sorry I didn't post again yesterday or this morning.  I got a late start today! I got up when my Fitbit alarm went off at 10:30.  I decided to lie in bed a little longer.  The next time I looked at my Fitbit it was 12:30. D'oh! lol . I got up and ate some leftoever pizza (we ordered one late last night) . I got ready and headed out towards 17.  I wanted to go to the Dollar Tree and to Beach Life.  I ended up going to both of those, plus a Dollar General, a Pacific beachwear (Where I found a decal I'd been searching for), the Nostalgia store, Whales beachwear, and I think that is all?  It was much harder walking on 17 than on the boardwalk.  Even if the Pavilion area is going to be crowded tomorrow, I think I'm going down there tomorrow and avoid the day I had today.  I got so hot that I felt like I was dying.

I came back here and got in the shower and took a quick cooling shower and put on clean, dry clothes.  I'm feeling much better now!

But-im-feeling-5ce0f1

I am hoping it will be a while before my friend is ready to go out.  I need to rest and relax in the cool.  I have one picture from last night and two pictures from today's walk to share.  I'll try to post again tonight.

The first picture is from the beach last night.  The second is inside of Whales beachwear and the third is from Ocean blvd. looking towards the ocean as I was coming back.  It's so pretty down here!

Whoo!

So, it's just a bit after 2pm and I've already done quite a bit.  I slept pretty well. That was a relief. I did wake up several times in the night like I usually do, but it wasn't too bad.  I got up before my Fitbit went off and fixed some pizza that was leftover from last night.  I had a piece on the balcony and then I had to come in because of how hot it is out there!

I finished up in here and relaxed for a bit.  I then dressed and headed out.  I decided to hit the Boardwalk as it starts right next to our hotel. Yay!  I got on it and walked to the Sky Wheel / Old Pavilion area.  I went in the Gay Dolphin as is tradition.  I bought a couple of shirts in there.  A MB one and a Gay Dolphin one!  I got some stickers and a grab bag, too.  I went across the street to I Love Sugar, but I didn't buy anything.  I went back across and hit the boardwalk and walked down to the ocean front Starbucks.  They didn't look too busy, so I headed in.  I was able to get hte same little table I got when I discovered it in September.  I got a caramel ribbon crunch frappuccion and a trenta sized ice water.  I stayed in there and cooled off and relaxed.  I wrote in my trip journal and drank my frappuccion.  I carried my water with me.

I walked back along the boardwalk and went in a small beachwear store and then went back out and across the street to check out a Bargain Beachwear.  After that, I went back to the boardwalk and headed back to the room. Oh wait! Before Starbucks, I went up on Pier 14 and got a smooshed penny and got to meet a cute dog.  When I was coming back to the room, I stopped at 2nd Ave Pier and got a a smooshed penny there too.  Oh, and I went in Peaches Corner and got a penny but it came out badly. Boo!

I came back to the hotel and got to meet another cute doggie (they are allowed here) and came up to the room.  I was totally roasting, so I took a cool shower and put on some fresh clothes.  That was nice.  Here are a few pictures I took today to share with you:

I'll probably do another post this evening.  Until then, enjoy these pictures. :)

There's a Hurricane a Comin'

In the words of Sophia Petrillo, there is indeed "A hurricane a comin'".  It's headed for the east coast.  Myrtle Beach, which I just left on Sunday has already 'shut down' so to speak.  A lot of things are closed.  The Gay Dolphin closed at 1:30 today and plans to be closed until after the storm.  They dismantled the Sky Wheel.  I saw some pictures of the Boardwalk area that a local MB photographer posted and it is utterly deserted.  Places that are always open are boarded up.  It's sad.  I hope everything down there comes through safely.  It was SO weird seeing those places that usually have a ton of people around being totally deserted.

The hurricane is also supposed to affect my area even though I'm way inland.  The city is already preparing and sending out alerts ahead of time.  I have some bread and stuff to make sandwiches in case we lose power.  I also went tonight to the dollar store and got some snacks to have on hand. I got an extra package of tea lights, some batteries, and some ibuprofen.  I just needed that on general principles, not because of the hurricane! I finished my last bottle at the beach.

I plan to walk as long as I can.  If we get the heavy rains and winds later this week, I will not be walking.  It will be dangerous out there.  If we still have power, I can always use the treadmill.  I also have some bottled water and other things if I need them.  The stores here are crazy.  I am glad I got my stuff yesterday because they said today was worse.  I was lucky to get two cases of water yesterday.  From what I've heard, it's sold out all over the city.  I always buy bottled water.  I almost didn't get any because the shelf was empty yesterday.  Luckily, they had a pallet of it that they were putting out and I got two cases.  I could have gotten more, but two will get me through the hurricane time and I can get more later when there are more supplies.

I walked today and it was pretty toasty!  I was hoping it would be cooler, but no.  I was glad to get back to it.  I didn't do my workouts, though. ^^;  I'll get back to that soon, too.   A friend came by to do some patching work on my roof.  My roof leaks a lot when it rains and with all the rain we are expected to get, it might get crazy in my house!  Hopefully what he did will help.  I have containers ready just in case.

I would like to go to the grocery store and get some bananas and some almond butter, but I am scared of how crazy it will be in there.  I should have gotten the almond butter when i was in there yesterday, but I didn't.  I will look and see how crazy it is when I walk tomorrow.  If it doesn't look too bad, I'll try to slip in and get those two things.  If not, I do have a lot of other things I can fix.

Those snacks that I bought today are in a container and they are tempting, but they are going to stay in that container until this weekend.  I got some good stuff, too.  Nabs, cookies, candy, etc.  Yum!

Thursday afternoon

I slept a little later today than I have been all week.  I got up at 10:30, the same time I do at home. I ate some leftover pizza.  We ordered some late last night.  I walked to the Pavilion / Sky Wheel area.  I went to the Gay Dolphin.  I got several small things, a cute little wallet that I looked at last trip, and a shirt.  I left there and hit the boardwalk and walked to the 2nd Avenue Pier.  I was going to go out on the pier, but when I got up to where you pay to go out, there were too many people. I decided to not go out on the pier.  I came back here and changed shirts and sat down to cool off and relax a bit. I'm going to share some pictures I took and then heat up some more left over pizza!

Afternoon update

So, I walked to the Pavilion area.  I went to the Gay Dolphin again.  I got some shells, a few post cards, and some individual shells.  I walked all over the store.  There is so much in there.  Oh! I also got a squashed penny from a machine.  I walked back down Ocean Blvd and then I went out to 17 for a bit and then back to Ocean blvd.  I went across to the ocean.  I took my shoes off and walked back down the beach to the hotel.

It's a beautiful day out there but it's so hot.  I'm sitting in the room cooling off and posting.  I have my phone charging.  It's got down to 28%. Yikes!  It's now full. I just checked. lol  I took quite a lot of pictures on the beach.  I thought I'd share a few with you.

Thursday evening....

So, after I posted earlier, we headed out.  We went to Lenny's for a late breakfast.  They have their breakfast food out until 2 pm.  After we ate,  we went to the Pavilion / Sky Wheel area and walked on the Boardwalk for a while.  We didn't really go in any of the stores. Afterwards, we rode up Highway 17 a bit.  We went to another Tuesday Morning location.  We headed on up towards North Myrtle Beach and rode from the beginning Ocean Blvd up there all the way to the end at Cherry Grove.  We then headed back this way.  It's a lovely day still.  The sun is still out as Im writing this.  I'm changing my phone so that I can go for a beach walk.  I want to go on an early one like I did yesterday after the storm.

Here is a few pictures that I took before I sat down.  I took them with my iPod touch, so they might not be as good as if I'd taken them with my phone.

Friday reflections....

It's hard to believe that at this time last week, I was at Myrtle Beach!  I wish I was still there.  Unfortunately I'm here.  Last week I walked from our hotel to the Pavilion / Sky Wheel area and back.  That was fun, but it was really hot down there that day.  Let me share a picture that I took along the boardwalk.

20170602_155458

The pier you see is the 2nd Ave. Pier.  I never went out on it, but I kept meaning to.  Maybe next trip.  I certainly miss that ocean view!
